4 Surprising Ways to Use a Mason Jar

2. Swap for the mug when making desserts and omelets.

The microwave is my not-so-secret weapon for a quick omelet on a hectic weekday morning, or a pudding to satisfy my sweet tooth almost on the spot. But mugs aren't actually necessary for mug omelets and mug desserts: Swap in a Mason jar and you'll get the same satisfying result.

Western Omelet in a Mug/Jar

Serves 1

2 large eggs
1 tablespoon milk
1 tablespoon chopped onion
2 tablespoons chopped bell pepper
2 slices deli ham, chopped
1 tablespoon shredded cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper

Coat the inside of a 12- to 16-ounce microwave-safe mug with cooking spray. Crack the eggs into the Jar and use a fork or small whisk to beat until completely combined. Whisk in the milk, onion, pepper, ham, and season with salt and pepper.

Microwave, uncovered, on high for 1 minute. Stir the eggs, top with cheese, if using, and cook for another 30 to 60 seconds on high, until the eggs are completely set. Remove the mug from the microwave and serve immediately.
