5 Foods That Are Banned In The United States!

So as we promised here is a list of things that are currently banned here in America. Although after reading this. The only thing I'm bummed about being banned is the chocolate!

1. Kinder Surprise Chocolate Eggs

Why it’s banned: The fun of Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs comes from the (inedible) toy that’s hidden inside the egg in a plastic capsule! Apparently, the U.S. government feels that it poses a danger to anyone who would attempt to eat this treat thinking that we wouldn't have the sense NOT to eat the plastic toy.  A

A 1938 federal law bans toys or any non-edible objects to be embedded within food products, meaning the only surprise Americans get is a potential fine and confiscation of their delicious chocolates at the border. Every year, tens of thousands of Kinder eggs are seized by U.S. customs.

2. Fugu

Why it’s (mostly) banned: Because it could in all actuality kill you if consumed without it being properly prepared! Even in Japan where it is legal, you still need a license and intense training even to think about cooking this Japanese pufferfish, which contains potentially lethal amounts of tetrodotoxin, this element can paralyze your body and stop your breathing!! I'm sorry, but there is no fish in the world that tastes good enough for me to risk that!!

3. Casu Marzu

Looks like a bread bowl at first glance, doesn't it?  Well, don't be fooled by its appearance because it's actually cheese. And I hate to say this to all of you cheese connoisseurs out there, but this is disgusting and should be banned around the world!

Why it’s banned: Pecorino cheese is purposefully infested with maggots, then left to let them do their thing. The maggots lay eggs in the cheese and eat away at it until it becomes ready for consumption by those who dare. Here’s the kicker: The cheese is only “good” when the maggots are still alive, crawling and writhing around.

4. Haggis

Again I say why would anyone want to eat this! Maybe my palette isn't as sophisticated as some others but even the thought of this one makes me gag!

Why it’s banned: Importing haggis to the United States is banned because haggis contains sheep lung, which violates federal food safety regulations. The USDA has had a ban on foods containing lungs since 1971, and despite efforts by the Scottish government, no changes to that law have been made. Keep your sheep lungs, Scotland, as long as we can still get your whiskey.

5. Ackee

What is it with people and wanting to eat foods that may cause instant death? Granted one could argue that eating McDonald's would cause a slow death is just as bad (and on many levels, I agree) but instant death is not a risk I want to take with my food!!

Why it’s (kind of) banned: Ackee is the national fruit of Jamaica, where it’s traditionally boiled and cooked with salted cod. The fruit is safe to eat when it has ripened properly, but if not, high levels of hypoglycin A and B can cause severe effects on the body up to the point of coma or death. As a result, the FDA banned all ackee until 2000, at which point several manufacturers were permitted to sell frozen and canned ackee in the United States. A ban on importing fresh ackee remains in effect, and the FDA continues to post guidelines for monitoring approved ackee products.

So there you have it. 5 Foods That Are Banned in the USA! Have you had the chance to eat any of these? If so what was your experience?

Jesus told Peter he made all things clean. I do not want to eat fugu or blood or many other things simply because I don’t want to.
