People Can't Stop Talking About This New Type Of Beef!
We've heard about some pretty strange tactics that people use to give meat a distinctive flavor. Usually this involves the way it's prepared or cooked, such as what kind of seasonings are used. However, we recently heard about a cattle farmer in Australia who's using a very unusual feed to give his cattle a distinctive taste. What could be so strange? Chocolate! Who knew?
Scott De Bruin raises Wagyu beef, a luxury Japanese beef considered the very best choice in beef. His farm, Maryu Station, has been producing Wagyu beef since 1845. He felt that the Wagyu label was being overused, so to make his cows stand out, he started feeding some of them up to 2 kg. of Cadbury chocolate per day. The effect was significant, with many people describing his beef as the best they've ever eaten. While it's certainly increased demand for his beef, it's also made it more expensive to make, adding 25 percent to his production costs.
