Authentic New Orleans Beignets

Authentic New Orleans Beignets

I like to pur a lot of Maple Syrup on top of my Beignets in the morning because I like the extra load of sugar that I get. You are going to fall in love with this recipe because its something truly unique and from the Party State of New Orleans.

Ingredients

1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup canola oil
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
4-1/2 cups self-rising flour
Oil for deep-fat frying
Confectioners' sugar

Step By Step Instructions

1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add milk, oil, sugar, egg and 2 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.

2. Punch dough down. Turn onto a floured surface; roll into a 16×12-in. rectangle. Cut into 2-in. squares.

3. In a skillet or fryer, heat oil to 375°. Fry squares until golden brown on both sides.

4. Drain on paper towels. Roll warm Beignets in confectioners' sugar.

~*~ Helpful Hint ~*~

If you found that your family and friends are in love with this little doughnut then you can make the dough for it the day/night before.

I found it useful to use self-raising flour instead of regular.

Have you ever tried this authentic, locally made doughnut? Tell us what you think!
