Jalapeno poppers are one of America's favorite bar food. They cover all of the basics for great bar food. They're fried, filled with cheese and spicy there was just one thing missing to make it truly “American” and that's some meat. Now they could have just filled it with a small serving of meat and been done with it but why stop there? They took it to the next level by combining this bar food with another All-American staple, the hot dog!
Sounds about right to me but that still wasn't enough…there was something missing and they knew exactly what it was….more meat. That is when they added the bacon! Man, do we love bacon! So putting this dish together isn't difficult at all.
Directions:
- Combine filling ingredients in a medium bowl, and mix thoroughly. Refrigerate at least 15 minutes.
- Cut the ends off the jalapeños, slice in half, and remove the seeds and white flesh from the interior.
- Butterfly the hot dogs.
- Stuff them with a few spoonfuls of the filling.
- Place one jalapeño half over each end of the hot dog, fitting the dogs snugly inside.
- Use two strips of bacon to wrap each jalapeño dog. Secure the bacon at each end with a toothpick.
- Grill the dogs over medium indirect heat until the bacon is crispy, about 10 minutes, turning halfway through. If you don’t have a grill, you can bake them in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes.
- Remove the toothpicks and serve in buns with your desired toppings.
There you have it! What many consider the perfect hot dog!
