Bourbon Bacon Brittle Is The Treat No One Can Resist

Bourbon Bacon Brittle Is The Treat No One Can Resist

The best part about going to those weekend bbq's is that it gives you the opportunity to scope out what dishes other people are preparing. Sure, there are always the favorites, chips/dip, veggie trays and some form of chicken wing, but every once in a while someone will bring a dish that is new and this is where the fun begins.

Recently I went to a game day event where sitting on the table was some form of brittle. There was no tag or indication of what kind it was so I took the opportunity to put a few pieces on my plate and carry on. What I found when I tasted it was this heavenly mix of bacon and bourbon, sweet and salty awesomeness. After hunting down who the genius was that brought this delicious treat I quickly acquired the recipe.

Here is what you will need.

Ingredients:

For the Candied Bacon:

  • 12 strips thick cut bacon
  • 3 tablespoons bourbon
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar

For the Brittle:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • Sea salt for sprinkling

Now that we have all of our ingredients let's look at what we need to do in order to create this masterpiece!

I read the recipe. It doesn’t seem TOO labor intensive as a quick make ahead and have bagged to hand out when ordered.
