Can’t Find Dulce De Leche At Your Neighborhood Store? Make It Yourself With This Incredibly Easy Recipe!

Here's everything you need for this incredible — and incredibly simple — Dulce de Leche. This recipe that uses just one can of sweetened condensed milk makes eight servings.

Let's Get Started…

Ingredients To Gather:

1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk (or As Many Cans As You'd Like.)

Directions To Follow:

  1. Peel the label off the can (or cans!) of sweetened condensed milk, place it in a pot or large saucepan, and cover it with water by 1 to 2 inches. Bring it to a very gentle boil, then reduce the heat to LOW, so that the water has a nice slow simmer.
  2. NOTE: Solid cans (without tab lids) are preferred.
  3. ***VERY IMPORTANT: Watch the water level and add water if the level of water falls below the top of the cans. Very important to keep a watch on the water level!
  4. Simmer the can(s) for 2 to 2 1/2 hours for a lighter golden dulce de leche. Simmer it/them for 3 1/2 hours for a deeper color and flavor. (Using tongs, VERY CAREFULLY turn over the cans halfway through the simmering process.)
  5. After the simmering time, turn off the heat and allow the cans to come to room temperature.
  6. ***IMPORTANT: Do not open the cans while they are still hot! Let them cool completely before opening.
  7. Open the cans, stir the dulce de leche, transfer it to mason jars, and store it in the fridge for up to 1 month.

Finished!

Who knew making something so divine could be so simple? Dulce de Leche sounds like the kind of ingredient that only a professional pastry or dessert chef might know how to make, but this recipe proves that some of the most amazing recipe ingredients are actually the easiest to enjoy.

Happy Baking!

I read somewhere that you can do the same in a crock pot but don’t remember the instructions. Will look it up.

You just put sweetened condensed milk in a small canning jar screw lid on tightly and place in your slow cooker covering jars completely in water for many hrs. It’s so fabulous.
