County Fair Style: Fried Pickles

County Fair Style: Fried Pickles

Before You Start You Are Going To Need A Few Things…

Ingredients To Gather

Pickles of your choice – spears or slices
3/4 cup flour (all purpose is best)
1/4 cup yellow cornmeal
2 eggs
1 cup milk
seasonings of choice – I did Tony's, black pepper and dill – if you don't use Tony's you'll want to add salt
vegetable/canola/peanut oil for frying

Step 1: Prep the ingredients

Set your deep fryer to 350 F or get a good amount of oil (at least 3-4 cups) heating over medium heat on the stove.

Step 2: Mixture Preparedness

Beat the eggs and milk together until no chunks of egg remain.

Step 3: Add Everything Else

Add your seasonings to the flour/cornmeal.

Step 4: Battering!

Plop the pickles in the milk/egg mix. Then place them in the flour and mix them around until they're coated very well.

Step 5: Frying!

Shake off the excess flour and drop the pickles gently into the hot oil.

Fry them until golden brown – 3-5 minutes.

Step 6: Enjoy!

Pull them out and let them drain on paper towels.

*~* Helpful Hints ~*~

Make sure to salt the flour mixture before you put them into the deep fryer.

3-5 minutes is the best time for frying your pickles however, if you like them a little more crispier then you can easily leave them in for about 5-7.

Make sure that before you dip the pickles in the egg mixture that they are completely dry. Then you can dip them into the flour mixture.

I like to let my pickles drip off from the egg mixture before I use the flour mixture.

You can use whatever pickles you want; there is no specific type you need.

When you cut your pickles make sure that they are thin and not too thick – you may need to play around a little bit before you can make a batch.

Spears slices or decorative cutouts… it doesn't matter.
