As a child of the 80’s I consider Julia Child's to be the first female celebrity chef. I remember her distinctive voice coming out of our family television, my mother’s eyes riveted on the screen, singing her praises, This woman can cook!
A few years ago when I saw the movie Julie and Julia all about a woman cooking her way through Julia’s famous cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking, I was reminded of what an icon Julia Child was, way before The Food Network, Martha Stewart or reality television she was the reigning queen of television cooking.
Her dishes, all based on French classics were made in homes across America. So much like Amy Adam’s character in the movie I tried making some of the dishes she made famous.
Some were easier than others but no matter what – they were all delicious!
Variations of her recipes are all over the place, which goes to show what an amazing chef she was.
