Food In The News: Starbucks Strikes Back With a Plan to Hire 10,000 Refugees!

The company's existing employees will also receive help from the company, which will provide assistance via its Starbucks' Partner Resources team. In the letter Schultz wrote to his partners, he outlined the importance of his plan:

“There are more than 65 million citizens of the world recognized as refugees by the United Nations, and we are developing plans to hire 10,000 of them over five years in the 75 countries around the world where Starbucks does business,” Schultz noted. “And we will start this effort here in the U.S. by making the initial focus of our hiring efforts on those individuals who have served with U.S. troops as interpreters and support personnel in the various countries where our military has asked for such support.”

He also expressed solidarity with Mexico and reiterated the company's support for and relationship with the country, which could be impacted by Trump's proposed 20 percent tax on Mexican imports to help pay for his proposed wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

“We are in business to inspire and nurture the human spirit, one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time — whether that neighborhood is in a Red State or a Blue State; a Christian country or a Muslim country; a divided nation or a united nation,” wrote Schultz.

I would feel differently had you ran this same “campaign” for our Vets and citizens in the past or even now..but instead you step out and say you will hire these refugees which I agree needs help and a chance but what you have done seems like a betrayal and slap in the face to the American citizen..you went about this all the wrong way and made the wrong kind of example …shame shame shame Starbucks
