If You Haven’t Tried A Nutella Butter Cream Cake Before You Don’t Know What You’re Missing!

This Spider Cake recipe will take you into a lot of steps from making the batter to buttercream to décor of the cake as well! Hope you can keep up!

The Ingredients To Gather:

Marble Cake:

  • 2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder

Buttercream:

  • 1 cup egg whites
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 pounds unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup nutella
  • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Body, Web, and Legs:
  • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions To Follow:

Marble Cake:

  1. Set the oven temperature to 350.
  2. Grease two 8-inch pans for the batter.
  3. Combine baking powder, baking soda, cake flour, and salt.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix butter and sugar for 3 minutes. Then, apply the eggs until smooth. Finally, put vanilla and sour cream, and mix well.
  5. Apply the flour mixture in this wet mixture. Add in the milk and mix well.
  6. Separate the batter in two. In one half add in the cocoa powder and mix.
  7. Pour the white batter in the 2 pans. Then, pour the chocolate batter in circular shapes to create that marble image.
  8. Place them in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
  9. Set them aside to cool.

Buttercream:

  1. Mix the egg whites and sugar together. To get the sugar to really blend, melt it by using a double boiler. Make sure to check that you don’t have any graininess and that the mixture is smooth.
  2. Take the mixture and whip it until fluffy, then set aside to cool.
  3. Add butter and continue mixing in the mixer.
  4. Once it is creamy, apply the vanilla and salt.
  5. Place 1/3 of mixture in one bowl, and the rest in another bowl.
  6. Apply nutella in the bowl with more mixture; apply chocolate in the other bowl.

Assemble:

  1. Cut the each batter in half.
  2. Apply chocolate buttercream as the filling.
  3. Once you stack them up, use the nutella buttercream to cover the entire cake.

Decorations:

  1. Combine the butter and chocolate together, and melt them using a double boiler.
  2. Use a pastry bag to create lines to make the cake look like a spider web.
  3. Create legs for places you want to place spiders’ body.
  4. With the rest of the chocolate, create round balls and let it cool for an hour or two, before placing them between the pre-drawn legs.

The purpose of the marble cake in this recipe is so that it’s not TOO chocolaty. When you are using a bold flavor and you eat too much of it, you will tend to get sick of the taste more quickly. That is why the marble cake, blending of vanilla and chocolate, balances that overly rich chocolate sensation.
