You must be stupid to take time to comment!
You must be stupid then if you read the article and took time to reply.
I have, I put a pot holder underneath.
Duh!
Been doing it for years.
Don’t these people have more important things to figure out instead of “is it safe to put hot food in Refrig.” like maybe how dangerous bacteria gets into our food.
so what is right? I see this type of posting all the time….one says yes another no.
I have alway let food cool down first
Omg YES!!!!
Old days used ice to kool refrigerator and the ice melted.today is mechical
BAD IDEA….walked the walk and spoiled the food…hot soup turned all foamy and SMELLED or should say REEKED ….again…BAD IDEA….Best to let it get to at least a warm temp…then frig…honest
Place it in shallower containers. Food needs to cool down to below 40 degrees in less than 4 hours. Leaving it out in a 75 degree room as opposed to a 40 degree refrigerator will make it spoil quicker. Bacteria thrives between 40 and 140 degrees F.
Years ago when people did not have refrigerator but the ice boxes with 100 pound blocks of ice as the coolent – better believe something was cooled before being put into ice box – at least in my home. Carry over time! I guess that is why I still wait for things to cool.
NO!!!
I’ve never worried about a fridge “overheating” to cool the food, I am more concerned for people placing the actual pots and pans (covered or uncovered) into a fridge and breaking the glass shelving or the food getting bacteria from being in an improper container.
Guess I am wayyyy off on my concern of folks concerns have been the fridge overheating
There’s nothing at all wrong with doing that. I’ve done it for many years and never a problem. Just be sure and put a dishtowl under it.
Not true….my “menudo went bad cuz it was still hot after 2hrs left on the stove before I put it in the fridge. Same with hot chicken soup.
I have no problem letting food cool first
I always put hot food in the fridge. To let it sit out is just asking to get sick
I have never worried about this, I guess it could cause condensation that would make a fridge work harder. But on wire shelves or glass I bet it makes not a lot of difference hot or cooled first.
No
Food should be cooled before placing in fridge bc it will spoil/sour!! (chef/degree in culinary arts)
The middle stays hot while the outside edges cool.could spoil the whole dish.put ice cubs in middle if possible.I cool before storing.
I was going to say just don’t put a hot dish on a cold surface like glass in the fridge because you could crack the glass tray and don’t put hot food on cold surface other then the fridge because the glass dish you cooked it in may crack.
No, won’t even read the comments
I put a dinner plate upside down then set hot dish on.
Not a good idea, it can spoil
No!!! I know a of a person who lost dozens of grilled chicken pieces doing that.
Never put hot food in the refrigerator. The temp goes up and all foods could spoil. I’ve taken two food sanitation classes and am working on becoming a chef.
Been doing it for yrs, then after 2 days if it’s not gone freeze it
Still alive after 30 yrs of doing it…
Done many many times before and it hasn’t hurt me or anything in my frig, it’s ok regardless….
Food should be cooled within a 2 hr. window before putting it in the frig. I place in a cool water bath to bring temp. down quickly to a temp. close to 40 degrees.
Sherry Tata Sarandrea Yup. Exactly what I have learned.
Me too. Never a problem. People are so paranoid.
If u put a hot sauce or a soup in the refrigerator it will sour. Fact!! Cool it down to room temperature first
TDZ.the outer part of the food may cool but the center will remain in the TDZ for over 4hrs and develop bacteria.if you must put hit food in then quick chill it by spreading it out in A sheet pan.
Some foods like corn will sour if you put it in refrigerator hot
I choose skinny only because I don’t like wine. It’s national scotch day I’m told. I’ve been thinking about it all day. All I have to do is go to the kitchen and make one.
U have to cool the food to 41 degree before putting in fridge u are putting ur family at risk

Not according to my Food Handlers card.
I alreadt knew this
As it says put food in shallow dishes then its safe it will cool fast just dont put deep dishes in
Let it cool first. So the frigerator won’t work as hard.
Hot food must be cooled to 70 within 2 hours. Then it has 4 hours to reach 40.
Refrigerators are equipped with thermostats to adjust the temperature. Nothing wrong with putting hot food in a refrigerator.
You could melt the butter!!
