As is normal with this website, the picture is not the result of the recipe. This piece of meat was cooked on a fire to get the charring shown in the picture. Slow cooker will tenderize the meat but it won’t look like this. Perhaps a cast iron dutch oven, searing the brisket strongly and then slow cooking in the oven for hours might get closer but the flavor won’t be the same.

My son-in-law has a big smoker and yes they are better on the smoker, he does ribs, chicken, brisket, and anything else he can throw on there but I would still be willing to try this in the crockpot,,, might be good,,,,,man everybody gets too mental about their pit and smokers and grills,,, I live in Bama we know good BBQ,,,,,,,

A Crockpot does not make BBQ. No smoke, no BBQ.

Texas BBQ, the way you describe it. There are many kinds…. I do not like Texas barbeque. But I like brisket cooked in a slow cooker with home!age sweet sauce. Can’t beat it. You can be a Texas BBQ snob all you want, but TX BBQ sucks.

I am not a Texas BBQ snob. But real BBQ is Real BBQ. Brisket does not render down properly in a slow cooker. And you certainly can not fit a 12-17 lb. brisket in one. Lol
