These Lemon Bars are all about the filling… I couldn't get over how easy they where to make and the simplified ingredients she used. The preparation only takes about 15 minutes and they bake for about 20 minutes. You can always bake them a little more if you like them on the crumbly side.

The filling was everything that I would have expected. It was sweet but yet, had the puckery taste of fresh lemons that really gave it a zing-a-ling!

Oh yeah… that extra ingredient that she added really took it over the top. I made a batch of these lemon bars and within minutes they where gone.

Just imagine having these lemon bars, or squares depending on how you cut them, with a nice hot cup of tea in the morning or as a late treat. Once you make this recipe you are definitely going to be adding it to your list of desserts to make on hand!

The Ingredients To Gather:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 3/4 cup fresh lemon juice

The Step By Step Directions To Follow:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. Beat butter, sugar and salt until fluffy. Add flour, and mix on low just until combined. Press dough into the bottom and 1/2 inch up sides of prepared pan; prick all over with a fork. Bake until lightly golden, 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Make filling: In a large bowl, whisk together yolks, condensed milk, and lemon juice until smooth.
  4. Pour over hot crust, bake until filling is set, 25 to 30 minutes.
  5. Cut into 16 squares, and dust with confectioners sugar.
