Now This Is Southern Comfort… These Soft Biscuits Are Good With Just About Anything

For these scrumptious biscuits, it may be handy to use a food processor, however, it works just as good to use a pastry cutter and mix them by hand. Oh, and just a little tip: the more pepper the better. You're going to want to have that little kick.

Ingredients To Gather

  • Biscuits
  • 3 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 2 Tablespoons Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1-1/2 stick (3/4 Cup) Cold Butter, Cut Into Pieces
  • 1-1/4 cup Butermilk
  • SAUSAGE GRAVY
  • 1 pound Breakfast Sausage, Hot Or Mild
  • 1/3 cup All-purpose Flour
  • 4 cups Whole Milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon Seasoned Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Black Pepper, More To Taste

Directions To Follow:

BISCUITS

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

2. Add flour, baking powder, and salt to the food processor (or a large bowl.) Add butter pieces and pulse until butter is thoroughly mixed into the flour mixture (or use a pastry cutter if using a bowl.) While pulsing (or stirring) drizzle in the buttermilk until the dough is no longer crumbly.

3. Place small balls of dough on two baking sheets, then bake for 15-17 minutes, or until golden brown. Brush them with melted butter when they are done.

SAUSAGE GRAVY
1. Tear small pieces of sausage and add them to a large heavy skillet. Cook until no longer pink. Sprinkle on half the flour and stir so that the sausage soaks it all up, then add a little more until just before the sausage looks too dry. Stir it around and cook it for another minute or so, then pour in the milk, stirring constantly.

2. Cook the gravy, stirring frequently, until it thickens. Sprinkle in the seasoned salt and pepper and continue cooking until very thick and luscious. Taste and adjust seasonings.

You can serve these biscuits with fruit, eggs, vegetables, or even by themselves. They pretty much go great with absolutely everything. You'll be amazed how simple and fun these are to make and just how savory they are. Every time you make them you and anyone you share it with are in for a lovely, yummy treat.
