Ridiculously Easy Italian Recipe: Make A Classic & Hearty Bolognese Sauce In Your Slow Cooker

Make this Bolognese Sauce just like Mario Batali. Not feeling overly confident with your knife skills? You can actually buy a mirepoix mix already prepped at most grocery stores. You find it in the veggie section and it might be labeled as a soup starter kit, but it's basically carrots, onion and celery.

Let's Get Started…

Things You Will Need:

  • 4 celery ribs, finely chopped

  • 2 medium carrots, finely chopped

  • 5 garlic cloves, thinly sliced

  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

  • 1/4 pound pancetta or slab bacon, ground by butcher or thinly sliced and pulsed in food processor until finely chopped

  • 1 pound ground veal

  • 1 pound ground pork (not lean)

  • 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 1 cup dry white wine

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves

  • 1 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

How To Prepare:

  1. Start your recipes off by cooking mirepoix and garlic in a soup pot over medium heat. Don't forget to stir occasionally so nothing sticks to the bottom of the pot. You'll want your veggies to get nice and soft, which should take about five minutes.
  2. Next, you're going to add some delicious salty pancetta, veal and pork to the pot. Cook over high heat now and again, don't forget to continue stirring so nothing stick to the bottom of the pot. Also, you'll want to break up any lumps of meat. Continue cooking until your meat is thoroughly cooked and no longer pink inside. This should take you about six minutes.
  3. Combine your tomato paste, milk, wine, water and thyme to the mix. Gently simmer for about 1 1/2 hours, until the sauce is nice and thickened. Add salt and pepper to taste while removing sauce from heat.

Finished!

Note: You can serve this sauce over your favorite pasta or gnocchi. You can even serve it over meatballs inside a sandwich with melted Provolone cheese. You can also make this sauce in the slow cooker instead of the simmering on the stove for over an hour.

Happy Cooking & Enjoy Ya'll!
