Peanut allergies are a major — and very scary — problem, but here in the United States and around the world. If a child is highly allergic to peanuts, he or she could get seriously ill or even die not just from eating peanuts themselves, but eating foods that contain peanut or peanut residue. The ones given peanuts were less likely to develop a peanut allergy. Now, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases is encouraging parents to give their children peanuts at a young age — and frequently.
