Slow Cooked Sloppy Joe Sandwiches With A Special Ingredient..

Here's everything you need. Note that if you can't find Texas toast, you can substitute any hearty white bread. Just make sure it can stand up to the juicy meat and gooey cheese!

Ingredients To Gather:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • ½ medium onion, chopped
  • ¼ cup chopped green pepper
  • ⅔ cup ketchup
  • 1½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 8 slices Texas toast or hearty white bread
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons butter

Directions To Follow:

Start by cooking the meat. Cook the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks with a wooden spoon. When it's completely broken apart and crumbled, add the onion and green pepper and cook the entire mixture until the meat isn't pink and the onion and green pepper and soft. Then:

  1. Add ketchup, dry mustard, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and cayenne pepper. Stir to combine well and cook over medium-low heat for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  2. For each sandwich, spread ¼ cup cheese on top of one slice of bread. Top with sloppy joe mixture. Place second piece of bread on top.
  3. Heat griddle or nonstick pan over medium heat. Add ½ tablespoon butter, let it melt and place sandwich on top. Cook until bottom is golden, lift sandwich with a spatula, place another ½ tablespoon of butter down, and flip sandwich over. Cook until cheese is melted.

And voila! An ooey, gooey, rich sandwich that both kids and adults will savor. This recipe calls for cheddar, but you can use any type of cheese you want. In fact, we recommend using a different kind every time. You never know what you might come up with!
