We recommend you make the Spice Rub first by mixing all the seasonings together. Then make the Bourbon Barbecue Sauce while the chicken wings marinate.
Let's Get Started…
Ingredients To Gather:
-
4 to 5 pounds fresh chicken wings
-
⅓ cup of our Spice Rub for Chicken
-
¼ cup brown sugar
-
⅛ cup paprika
-
2 teaspoons coriander
-
2 teaspoons garlic powder
-
2 teaspoons onion powder
-
½ teaspoon cayenne
-
1 teaspoon basil
-
1 teaspoon celery salt
-
1 cup of Bourbon Barbecue Sauce
-
1 cup bourbon whiskey
-
1 cup finely chopped onion
-
½ cup water
-
¼ cup brown sugar
-
1 ½ cups ketchup
-
2 tablespoons tomato paste
-
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
-
4 tablespoons molasses
-
⅛ cup Worcestershire sauce
-
½ teaspoon liquid smoke
Step By Step Directions To Follow
Chicken Wings
-
Place wing pieces into a large bowl, pour the Spice Rub over the chicken wings, place into a gallon zip lock bag and refrigerate overnight.
-
Prepare the Bourbon Sauce while the chicken marinates. When ready to cook the wings, heat the sauce.
-
Heat your grill to medium high heat.
-
Remove wings from the grill and place in a large bowl. Pour one cup of the sauce over wings and toss to coat.
-
Place the wings back on the grill and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side just to brown and caramelize the sauce.
Bourbon Barbecue Sauce
-
In a 4-quart sauce pan, bring the bourbon to a boil with the minced onions and simmer for five to ten minutes.
-
Add the water and all of the other ingredients into the pan with the onions, heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until you reach a thick and smooth consistency.
-
Using an immersion blender, puree until onions have dissolved.
Finished!
All of the work is SO worth it. You haven't had the perfect combinations of zesty and sweet until you've tried these chicken wings. Make sure to have napkins handy because you're gonna need to cleanup after the feast.
Enjoy!
