The Best Kind Of Salisbury Steak Recipe We’ve Ever Had Is From The Midwest: It Just Tastes Better!

Here's everything you need for this savory Midwest Salisbury Steak. You need 1 hour and 5 minutes total time for this recipe that makes five servings.

Let's Get Started…

Ingredients To Gather:

  • 1 pound ground sirloin
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 sweet onion, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
  • 1 1/2 cups beef stock
  • 1 cup water

Directions To Follow:

Start by combining the meat, panko bread crumbs, egg, milk, and 1/2 packet onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper in a large bowl. Form the mixture into five patties, and then cook the patties in a hot skillet between 3 and 5 minutes on each side or until browned. Next, melt the butter in another skillet over medium-high heat, and then saute the mushrooms and onion in the melted butter for between 5 and 7 minutes or until tender. Add the flour and the rest of the onion soup to the mushroom mixture and stir to combine. Cook, while stirring, for about 1 minute or until the flour is completely integrated into the mixture.

Next, stream the beef stock and the water over the mushroom mixture while stirring, and then bring to a simmer and lower the heat to medium. Cook about 5 minutes or until the liquid thickens, stirring throughout. Add salt and pepper, and then put the browned steaks into the gravy and simmer until the steaks are firm and have turned gray in the center. This should take about 30 minutes. You'll know they're done when a meat thermometer inserted inside reads 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Finished!

We're drooling just reading this recipe, so think how amazed you'll be when you actually take a bite. We like this steak with a couple of veggie side dishes or maybe a nice dinner salad.

Enjoy!
