We found this nifty little trick via a YouTube video, which demonstrates the process really well. Basically, this method requires just a few easy steps:
As the video shows, the process is actually pretty simple. Start by cutting the top off of the watermelon and scooping out the insides. Then, add the contents to a mixer and blend. Next, cut a hole in the front of the melon and insert the spout. Pour the blended contents of the watermelon back inside, and then add any liquor or alcoholic mix to jazz things up a bit. (We also like to add some cold water and just a little bit of lime juice.) Then, just stir until everything is combined and then replace the top of the watermelon to make a keg. (A toothpick or two will keep the top of the melon in place.)
We were so impressed by this trick that we've been making watermelon kegs for nearly all of our parties and gatherings. They're perfect for summertime backyard BBQs or pool parties, but we also make them in winter and fall to bring back just a little taste of warmer weather. Mmmm….delicious!
