The Decoded Double-Double

The Decoded Double-Double

The home made version is going to be a lot more tasty and whole lot more healthier for you in the long run!

When was the last time that burger you ordered at the drive-thru really turned out looking like the juicy delight that you saw in the commercial?

We all know that the allure of fast food is that generally you can pull up to a menu, place your order through the loud speaker and within a couple minutes your driving off with a piping hot bag of yummy. This is usually a stark contrast to cooking at home, which involves time and effort and maybe a bit of inconvenience. Well friends, that does not always have to be the case…

Let's break down a simple recipe you can try tonight.

Your Ingredient List

  • Harris Farms Hamburger Meat (Either pre-made frozen patties, or you can opt to purchase the bulk lean hamburger meat and make your own patties, whatever your time allows).
  • Gourmet Hamburger Buns
  • 1 Head of lettuce
  • Sliced tomato
  • Sliced Onion
  • Sliced Cheddar Cheese
  • Thousand Island Dressing
  • 1 Bag of Organic Frozen French Fries.

Cooking Instructions

  • Preheat oven to suggested temperature for cooking french fries. Evenly spread fries on baking dish and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until desired crispiness is reached and lightly salt.
  • While your fries are baking, (which is much more healthy than the deep fried method), using a large frying pan, or George Forman Grill, cook your burger to desired temperature. When burgers are almost done, add cheese to the tops for optimum melted goodness.
  • For those grilled onion lovers, saute your sliced onions in the same pan that you used to cook your hamburgers in. Cook until your onions are translucent.
  • Now its time to build your burger! Generously spread thousand island dressing on your buns, add lettuce, tomato and grilled onions along with two of your juicy hamburger patties. Add your fires to the side and your now about to enjoy your very own home made Double Double!

The moral of this story is that while we all love, myself included, some greasy fast food. Often times it is almost as easy and less expensive, to make your own variation at home.

When it comes to “decoding” your favorite recipes, use your taste buds. I'd like to hope you already know what goes on that drive thru burger that you so love. Same goes for the any of your other favorite menu items. Experiment around and you might just find that your homemade version is a whole lot tastier.
