I have always used salt and a dash of pepper sometimes and yeah I am a hillbilly LOL
Perfect to bring out the flavor on cantaloupe also.
I have even put a bit of pepper on it. Try it different ways. Sugar even Try a drop or two of lemon juice.

I have always put salt on watermelon, as did my whole family.
I am also “as old as dirt” and have never eaten watermelon without salt. Used to take salt shaker to watermelon field, find a nice ripe one, burst it open, use the salt shaker and eat the heart of the melon. I still don’t want my watermelon cold.

Our family has always salted melons, watermelon, cantalope, honey dew. We are of Swiss and German descent and we are so old our Social Security numbers are 1 for hubby and 2 for me.
We have always used salt on all the melons and also fresh grapefruit,sugar on tomatoes, salt on lemons sugar on oranges , lol
