    I am also “as old as dirt” and have never eaten watermelon without salt. Used to take salt shaker to watermelon field, find a nice ripe one, burst it open, use the salt shaker and eat the heart of the melon. I still don’t want my watermelon cold.

    Our family has always salted melons, watermelon, cantalope, honey dew. We are of Swiss and German descent and we are so old our Social Security numbers are 1 for hubby and 2 for me.
