For years, many of us have thought heavy cream and whipping cream were the same thing. When we found out the difference, we were stunned!
The Difference Between Heavy Cream And Whipping Cream Is:
There are differences in milk-fat content. All cream contains at least 18 percent milk fat: “whipping cream” is made up of 30 percent, “heavy cream” or “heavy whipping cream” contains 36 percent or more. Whipping cream, heavy cream, heavy whipping cream all work for recipes that incorporate whisked air. Don't reach for that half-and-half; at 10.5 to 18 percent milk fat, it won't cut it.
Finished!
Now that you know there is actually a difference between heavy cream and whipping cream, you might pay more attention to which one you buy. Did you know heavy cream and whipping cream aren't the same thing?

After this article I am really confused. You ended up saying it was all the same.
And the point is
That was a waste of time
In Australia it is just called thickened cream
Yeah Awesome ! ? :/
who else really gets this
LOL nope.
What a waste of time reading this.
They are the same.
good to know,, I have always wondered why sometimes if i just use whipping cream, it doesn’t hold it’s peaks,, now i know,, you sure can tell the difference the next day,,,
They are the same, just one is whipped.

I clicked so you don’t have to. Lol
I think you could have explained in the first paragraph. Geeez.
Well you learn something new everyday!!
Um…no.
Then explain to me why a 5 star chef told me they’re the same thing?
Makes zero difference when using it in any recipe or whipping!

Have never seen heavy cream in any store??
Exacrly
Because they are!!! No difference when using them !!
Kathy Stoneburner Cavallero I know that. There is literally NO difference. That was pretty much my point. I don’t think Recipe Station is going to argue something said by a 5 star chef.
U
Guilty. Oh, so guilty.

They both still work to make whipped cream
Thanks
I owned a paint store. One morning I wanted some whipping cream for a treat we were having. Could’nt find any on my way to work at 6:30. Got some milk at the bakery (Steve’s). Put milk and sugar in a quart and threw it on the paint shaker. Left it on too long and it went directly to BUTTER! It was good.
Well that was a waste of time
This article made. Absolutely no sense. It did not explain any difference between heavy cream, whipping cream or heavy whipping cream. If it did please explain it to me
Really That was a waste of time reading that.
I always use “heavy whipping cream” for any recipe that calls for cream because its the only variety my local store sells. I’ve never had a problem with any recipe turning out wonky because of the type of cream I used, regardless of if it was a dessert or something like soup or a sauce for steak.
What a waste of time!
Lame!!!
There is nothing here I did not know and it is not worth the million ads I don’t want to see.
Not clicking
Good to know
Same here
Same here!!
I can only find heavy whipping cream.
Me too
Thanks
