Many of us have been enjoying a glass of red or wine white on occasion for as long as we can remember. We might have even had a glass of pink wine a time or two. However, this new blue wine has caused quite a debate. Wine has we know it may never be the same again!
Everything You Need To Know About Blue Wine Is:
Spanish startup Gïk offered consumers with an alternative to traditional wine in 2015 with blue wine. Lawmakers in Spain are not allowing the alcoholic beverage to be called wine because of an existing law that dictates what colors wine can be.
Gïk founder, Aritz López, told Food52 that authorities received an anonymous tip that blue wine is breaking a 2013 law stating wine can only be one of three colors: red, white, or pink. Authorities fined the company, Gïk was ordered to label their product as “99 percent wine and 1 percent grape juice.”
The issue is that the blue wine, is made entirely of grapes. Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented grapes. By most standards, Gïk's product fits within the definition.
Its makers claim it is 100 percent organic. The method uses anthocyanin, a pigment found in red grapes, and indigotine, an organic compound to create the blue color.
The Gik company has started a petition to hopefully to change the lawmaker's mind.
Wow!
