Here's everything for these savory copycat Ikea Swedish meatballs. This recipe requires 20 minutes of active prep and 20 minutes of inactive prep and makes 30 meatballs.

Let's Get Started…

Ingredients To Gather:

  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/3 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp. water
  • 1/2 lb. ground beef (20 percent fat)
  • 1/2 lb. ground pork
  • 1/2 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. white pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. allspice
  • 1 1/4 cups beef broth
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp. white pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tsp. vegetable oil

Directions To Follow:

Start by combining the onion, egg, egg white, beef broth and water. Mix for 15 seconds on high speed or until the onion is pulverized, using a food processor or blender. With a blender, pour the mixture into a large bowl and then add the ground meats, bread crumbs and seasoning and use hand to combine well. For a food processor, combine the mixture with the same ingredients but then mix in the food processor for 30 seconds on high speed or until the ingredients are all incorporated and the meat has a smooth texture.
Next, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and then take a 1/3-ounce cookie scraper or measuring spoon, moisten it with water, and then use it to make the mixture into balls measuring about 1 1/4-inch in diameter. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat or on a nonstick baking sheet and then bake until lightly browned; about 20 to 25 minutes, turning them over halfway through the cooking process. While they’re baking, make the sauce. To do this, whisk together all of the ingredients except for the bay leaf over medium heat in a small saucepan. Add the bay leaf when the mixture begins bubbling, and then reduce the heat and simmer until thick; about 6 to 7 minutes. Throw away the bay leaf after this.Brown the meatballs just prior to serving, cooking them over medium heat in a saute pan along with a couple of teaspoons of vegetable oil. Top the meatballs with the cream sauce and then serve.

Finished!
