These Fried Plantains Were So Authentic , We Almost Thought We Were Enjoying Them Right In Trinidad!

There are so many reasons to add plantains to your diet this year. Not only do they taste amazing but surprisingly they have some nutritional value as well.

One cup raw plantain has roughly (in recommended daily values) (1, 2):

  • 181 calories
  • 47 grams carbohydrates
  • 1.9 grams protein
  • 0.5 grams fat
  • 3.4 grams fiber
  • 27.2 milligrams vitamin C (45 percent DV)
  • 1,668 IU vitamin A (33 percent)
  • 0.4 milligram
  •  vitamin B6 (22 percent)
  • 739 milligrams potassium (21 percent)
  • 55 milligrams magnesium (14 percent)
  • 0.9 milligrams iron (5 percent)

 

This recipe uses four plantains but if you want more, you can always double the ingredients. They take about three to four minutes to fry on each side. You won't have to wait long at all to dig right in!

The Ingredients To Gather:

4 over-ripe plantains
3 tbsp coconut oil
Honey or sour cream for dipping

The Step By Step Directions To Follow:

Cut  plantains thinly, about 1/4″, and on the diagonal so the pieces are long and slanted. Melt coconut oil in the pan and fry for 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crisp. Serve hot on their own or with honey or sour cream to dip.
