These Jelly-Filled Doughnuts Are Better Than The Ones They Make At Krispy Kremes

These Jelly-Filled Doughnuts Are Better Than The Ones They Make At Krispy Kremes

The ingredients for jelly donuts are very simple, but the process takes some time! Turn it into a fun and social activity. You get 40 donuts out of this!

Gather your ingredients

What you need:

  • 1 pound multipurpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 pinches of salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup skim milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup salted butter
  • 1 bottle of peanut oil
  • 1 jar of strawberry or raspberry jelly
  • Powdered sugar to decorate

Prepare the dough

Put all of the ingredients in a bread maker in the order that the instruction manual recommends. Select the ‘basic’ program and then the ‘dough’ option. The bread maker will knead the dough and then let it rise for about 2 hours.

If you don’t have a bread maker, put the flour in a bowl, add the remaining ingredients and then slowly add the liquids while mixing. Knead a little, add the butter and then knead by hand or using a food processor.

Roll and cut

Roll out the dough using a rolling pin. You want the dough to be about ½ inch thick. Then, use cookie cutters to cut out circles. You can cut small circles for mini donuts, or make large ones. This is a great step to include the kids! Once your circles are cut, you’ll let it rest for a bit.

Place the dough circles on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. When the sheet is full, cover with a damp dish towel and let the dough rise for another 30 minutes.

While you wait, brew some coffee or a rich tea to go with the donuts!

FRY

Heat up a lot of oil in a large pot and get it to 325 degrees, the ideal temperature for crispy, fully cooked, golden donuts.  Fry each one for about 5 minutes, turning them once halfway through. As they cook you will see them puff up.

Remove the donuts from the oil using a slotted spoon, then place them on a plate covered in paper towels. Cook and dry the rest of the donuts until you have no dough left.

Sugar

To celebrate all of your hard work frying all of those donuts, shower them with love in the form of powdered sugar. Use a sifter!

Add Jelly

Here’s the fun part! This is another good time to enlist the help of little helpers who are eager to stuff their faces with jelly donuts. Although, this could get very messy!

Place the jam in a piping bag.

Using a knife, make a small slit or hole on the side of each donut.

Insert the tip of the piping bag into the hole and press lightly to fill each donut with jam.

Your jelly donuts are complete!

Try making these for a bake sale, a community function, or even a PTA meeting. You can experiment with different jams and jellies, making a full assortment of delicious filled donuts. Homemade donut jellies from scratch are an impressive presentation, heavenly to consume, and appeals to the masses!
