These Soft Cream Cheese Cookies Have Just a Hint of Citrus

Here's everything you need for these rich and delectable cream cheese citrus cookies. This recipe makes 12 cookies.

Ingredients to Gather

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups sugar
8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, at room temperature
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon fiori di sicilia flavoring

Directions to Follow

Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and then use parchment paper to line a baking sheet. Next, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt using a whisk, and then combine the sugar, cream cheese, and butter in a separate bowl and cream until light and fluffy. After this, add the egg and the fiori di sicilia (you can also substitute 1 tsp. vanilla and 1 tbsp. fresh lemon zest) and then mix the ingredients well. Now, combine the wet ingredients and the dry ingredients just until they're combined, and then chill the dough for 15 minutes.

Now, make the dough into 2-inch balls or scoop it out with a spoon, and then place the dough balls on the baking sheet. Flatten them somewhat by pressing down on the tops, and then bake them until the edges are just starting to turn a golden brown, usually about 10 minutes.

And that's all it takes! These cookies are great for a satisfying dessert after a rich and hearty meal, but they also make a nice snack. We also like sticking one or two in the kids' lunchboxes for a nice little lunchtime surprise when they're hard at work at school. Yum!
