This Beer-Braised Beef With Onions & Carrots Will Have You Rethinking What’s For Dinner Tonight!

Get a napkin ready, because you will be drooling. Your mouth will be watering so much as you continue to wait patiently for the timer to go off in your kitchen. Don't worry. You'll be digging in before you know it.

Let's Get Started…

Things You Will Need:

  • 2 pounds beef chuck, cut into cubes, visible fat removed

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

  • 1 pound onions, thinly sliced (this is about 2 large)

  • 4 tablespoons flour

  • 2 tablespoon unsalted butter

  • 2 tablespoon white wine vinegar*

  • 12 ounces dark beer ( I like a porter)*

  • 1 cup beef broth*

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 2 bay leaves

  • Salt and freshly ground pepper

  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar

How To Prepare:

  1. Start off by preheating your oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Prep your beef by seasoning it with salt and pepper, and then searing it on all sides. Sear it by heating up a pan with oil and then lightly browning on all sides of your piece of meat. After, set aside until needed again.
  3. Use the remaining drippings in the pan to cook your onions. Place the meat back into the pan with your onions. Add butter and flour and stir often for the next seven minutes.
  4. Now it's time to add beer, beef broth, vinegar and thyme. By this point you should have a smooth sauce that is just starting to thicken. At this time you can go ahead and add the bayleaves along with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Now try to sweeten the pot by adding some brown sugar over the top. Go and ahead and put a cover over your pan, and finish cooking in the oven for the next two hours.

Finished!

Note: While your meat is cooking in the oven you can think about the sides you are going to serve with your beef and make them in the mean time. Mashed potatoes and broccoli are great additions to round out this hearty meal.

~*~ Baking Tip ~*~
