This Delicious Roux Is So Simple To Make & It Goes Perfect With Just About Anything!

Depending on the recipe you are using the roux for, you can make it as light or as dark brown as you want. It will have a nutty smell when it starts to brown. It is important that you keep your attention on the roux because you want it to get brown but not burn.

Let's Get Started!

The Tools You Need To Use:

  • Whisk

  • A Skillet ,Saucepan or Pot

The Ingredients to Gather:

  • Butter (You can use oil instead if you prefer)
  • Flour

The Step By Step Directions To Follow:

  1. With your pan over medium heat, melt your butter and bring it to a slight simmer. You will want to whisk it so that it keeps moving constantly and doesn’t sit in one place for too long.
  2. Slowly, start to whisk in the flour making sure that it has a chance to incorporate fully before adding more.
  3. Keep whisking constantly and add the rest of your flour slowly until it becomes almost like a paste. Or at least like a thick soup, depending on your butter/flour ratio.
  4. As you keep whisking it over heat, you will start to smell it and the butter starting to toast and brown. It will have a slightly nutty smell to it. The longer it sits over the heat being whisked the darker brown it will get.
  5. Keep an eye on it for just the right color that will work for your dish. You can make as light or as dark brown as you want, depending on the flavor you want for your recipe.
