This Homemade Chocolate & Peanut Butter Cake Just Might Be The Dessert You Make All Summer Long!

This recipe is for a small cake but if you want a regular size cake all you have to do is double the ingredients. The cake takes about twenty minutes to bake and the homemade frosting can be whipped up in several minutes.

The Ingredients To Gather:

  • Cake:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 heaping tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Frosting:
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 2/3 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

The Step By Step Directions To Follow:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter cake pans, line with a round of parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Boil water. Melt butter. Stir in cocoa powder, water; boil for 30 seconds, remove from heat.
  4. Pour over the dry ingredients and stir.
  5. Whisk together buttermilk, egg, baking soda and vanilla. Stir into the chocolate batter, mix until combined.
  6. Pour into pans, bake 20 minutes Remove from oven and allow to cool in pans 10 minutes.
  7. Place cream cheese in bowl . Beat until smooth.
  8. Add peanut butter and beat again. Add butter and beat until smooth again. Beat in powdered sugar and vanilla.
  9. Place one layer on a cake stand or plate and put strips of parchment just underneath.
  10. Spread with frosting to create a layer that's about 1/4-inch thick. Repeat with remaining layers.
