We Just Updated The Original Apple Strudel & Made It Extra Special With This Secret Ingredient

Here's everything for these indulgent mini apple strudels. This recipe makes 12 servings.

This Is What You Need… 

For The Strudel:

  • 3 apples (we used honey crisp!)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ cup almonds
  • 1 box puff pastry dough (17.3 ounces, fresh or frozen)
  • Cream and water for coating the pastry
  • 1 egg
  • Vanilla Pudding Mixture
  • 1 package cook & serve vanilla pudding (not instant)
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk (or half of the amount in package instructions)

For The Decoration:

  • Powdered sugar

Directions To Follow:

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and then spraying a muffin pan with oil.
  2. Peel the apples and then set aside the apple peel for decoration (this step is optional).
  3. Dice the apples and place them in a large bowl, and then and the lemon juice, sugar, and almonds and mix well.
  4. Roll out half of the puff pastry until it's thin, and then cut it so that there are three even, long slices.
  5. Coat the slices with cream, and then spread half the apple mixture on all three of the slices.
  6. Cover about three quarters of the slices with the cream and leave about an inch empty at the sides.
  7. Brush water on all but one of the edges, and then roll the dough over the apple mixture from the top to the bottom until there are evenly sized rolls.
  8. Pinch the sides of the rolls to seal them, and then cut the rolls in the middle and placed in the greased muffin pan with the closed side facing down.
  9. Repeat this process with the other half of the pastry puff and the apple mixture, until there are 12 strudels.
  10. Now, mix the vanilla powder with half of the milk called for on the package, which is usually 1 1/2 cups.
  11. Then, pour 2 to 3 tbsp. of the mixture into each strudel and brush the egg wash over the strudels, and bake until golden brown.
  12. When the strudels are done, remove them from the oven and dust them with the powdered sugar.
  13. Shape the leftover apple peel into roses to decorate the strudels if desired.
