Copycat Recipe: Chick-Fil-A Sandwich

Here's everything for these savory Chick-fil-A copycat sandwiches. This recipe requires 20 minutes of active time and 2 hours of inactive time, and makes four sandwiches.

Ingredients To Gather:

For the brine:
4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp. MSG (such as Accent seasoning)
2 cups water
1 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
4 small skinless chicken breast fillets or 2 large skinless chicken breast fillets
4 to 8 cups peanut oil
1 large egg, beaten
1 cup milk

For the breading:
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tbsp. powdered sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. MSG
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/2 tsp. ground white pepper
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1/4 cup margarine, melted
4 plain white hamburger buns
8 dill pickle hamburger slices

Directions To Follow:

Start by making the brine for the chicken. To do this, combine the salt, sugar and MSG with water and then dissolve the mixture in a medium-sized bowl, and then add the rest of the ingredients. Slice the chicken breasts in half if using large ones, and leave whole if using small ones. Cover them with plastic wrap and pound them using a kitchen mallet until they measure between 1/4- and 1/2-inch thick. Next, place them in the brine and then refrigerate for 2 hours, and then remove from the brine, rinse the brine off and dry the fillets off by blotting them with a paper towel. Next, preheat the oil in a large saucepan or a deep fryer, heating the oil until it reaches 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Use at least 3 to 4 inches of oil.

Now, combine the beaten egg and the milk in a medium-sized bowl, and then combine the ingredients for the breading in a pie pan or in a shallow bowl. Lightly coat each fillet with the dry ingredients, and then dunk into the egg/milk mixture. Allow some of the liquid to drip off, and then coat the fillets again in the dry mixture. Dip the fillets in the egg/milk mixture again, and then coat it one final time with the dry mixture, letting them sit in the dry mixture for a minutes so that they’re well-coated. Now, place the fillets on a plate or a small baking sheet, and then let them sit for 5 minutes so that the breading sticks to the chicken.

Then, place the fillets one or two at a time in the deep fryer or saucepan and fry until golden brown, about 5 to 7 minutes. While the fillets are cooking, preheat a skillet over medium heat and brush some of the melted margarine on the faces of the hamburger buns. Place the buns face-down and heat until they’re light brown. When the fillets are done, drain them on a plate lined with paper towels. Finally, make the sandwiches by placing two pickle slices on the face of the bottom bun, and then place a chicken fillet on top of the pickles. Finish by placing the top bun on top.

Finished!

These Chick-fil-A copycat sandwiches sound amazing. We love that we can make our favorite fast food right at home. The only that could possibly make these sandwiches better is to pair them with a generous order of french fries.

Enjoy!
