This Sauce Will Be Your Go To Every Night That You Don't Know What To Make For Dinner.
A good meat sauce on my spaghetti brings me back to my childhood. I loved the sauce more than the pasta, hands down. I was always a team sauce person. Maybe that's because my mom didn't make pasta by hand, but what single mothers do? The sauce was so good that I would sneak a coffee cup and fill it just with the sauce and eat it like soup. I would tell my mom I was just doing ‘quality control' even though I never said she needed to add anything. It was just my way of showing that I absolutely loved every time she made this sauce and I could just not wait a second longer. Confession. Now that I'm an adult, I still do the same thing when I make spaghetti.
My heart twinkled a little when I saw that this recipe called for a jar of marinara sauce as well. My mom did the same exact thing. She would doctor up a jar of sauce to make it her own recipe. You'll see that this recipe included many other ingredients and is not just a glorified jar of sauce.

This makes me sooo hungry for Marty Chambers spaghetti and meatballs!!! It is the BEST!!!
This is delicious. Very similar to mine. Thats the beauty of cooking. There are no rules. To each they’re own.An awesome twist on an old favorite.
I make mine very close to this recipe, sans the green pepper and parsley….and instead of white wine I use a hearty red wine.
This is not authentic Italian anything. After all the tomatoes, and paste, you do not put in white wine, jarred sauce, or sugar, among other things.
Michael Bellisle Rosemary does not go in sauce.
I usually make my own sauce when I see good tomatoes because I use about 8 lbs to make a nice amount to have the same day and save some for another day. No one in my family makes the sauce the same way and we love them all. Few in my family make the sauce with meat but I don’t like meat in my sauce so it is not greasy but just tasty. To each his own when making Italian sauce there is no set rule.

After reading the comments below, I decide to look at the recipe and have to agree this is far from traditional. The recipe I have is from a first generation Italian American and has 6 ingredants. Far from this as you can get.
5 pounds Ground Beef (I Used Ground Round)
3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
2 whole Large Yellow Onions, Diced
2 whole Green Bell Pepper, Seeded And Diced
6 cloves Garlic, Minced
1 cup White Wine (or Low Sodium Beef Broth If You Prefer)
2 cans 28 Ounce Crushed Tomatoes
1 can (14 Oz. Size) Crushed Tomatoes
1 can (small, 4-ounce) Tomato Paste
1 jar Good Storebought Marinara Sauce (can Use Another Jar If You Like The Sauce To Be More Saucy Than Meaty)
1 teaspoon Ground Oregano
1 teaspoon Ground Thyme
4 whole Bay Leaves
2 Tablespoons Sugar
2 teaspoons Kosher Salt
1/2 teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper (optional)
1/4 cup Finely Minced Fresh Parsley (or 3 Tablespoons Parsley Flakes), More To Taste
1 whole Rind From One Wedge Parmesan (optional)
1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese (optional)
2 pounds Spaghetti, Cooked Al Dente And Tossed With Olive Oil
Extra Minced Parsley, For Serving
Extra Parmesan Cheese, For Serving
Not Italian. No peppers in gravy… With the ground beef it looks more like goulash. Probably tastes ok but it’s not Italian sauce.
Gross. A jar? Just gross! I would never eat this!
No green peppers in my spaghetti sauce and I only make my own. That is not very Italian!
This recipe bored me from the start. Hamburger meat is for hamburgers. They make Italian sausage for a reason. I cook my sauce all day on low and set in fridge overnight. Green bell peppers? Really? They come in red and the flavor is twofold.
My Mom, Carmela, made sauce like her grandmother, Carmela did….And great-grandma came straight from Italy….some good Italian spices and simmering on the stove….but we don’t make a “meat” sauce . I put in whole portions of Italian sausage, pork and chicken and precooked meatballs that are made from scratch too…the kind of sauce chunks of Italian bread gets dipped in to! LOL
What I am wondering is…WHY THE JARRED MARINARA SAUCE IS ADDED!!!!! If this is a homemade sauce, why are you adding a JAR of sauce??? Ridiculous!!
You lost me at a jar of store bought sauce.

My mother, who is of Lithuanian descent, used to make her sauce with tomatoes, but she would toss all the leftover meats in the fridge into it. Chicken, pork chops, bits of beef and kielbasi. We preferred rigatoni. I make mine with habaneros. As a young man I served in the Navy with Chicanos. I acquired some of their tastes.
Thanks for the info.
We always use peppers, so good!!
Use whatever tastes good to you. Everyone has a different take on ingredients. Its good to try others recipes. If you don’t like it don’t make it again. but you may surprise yourself and like it. Trying something new can’t hurt. by the way I use green peppers and my sauce is delicious. (oh I’m not Italian as you’ve probably noticed.)
Not everyone is Italian and they might like their sauce a different way. I’m not Italian and I use hamburg in my sauce which comes from a jar
Yumms
We don’t use crushed tomatoes
Quit being picky for crying out loud! Meat, can be wild game , beef or horse meat, everyone loves Italian food! Wine, bread, cheeses, ummm grew up with 8 in our family, ate anything, everything!

My Sicilian grandma always put a little greenpepper in her sauce.
sounds good
No green peppers in an authentic Italian sauce. My grandparents came to this country from Italy as young adults so our family knows true Italian cooking…we would call the version with green peppers “American sauce”. Hey I enjoy that kind sometimes too but it is not authentic Italian- people of Italian descent know this.
It’s ragu
Ragu starts with soffritto.

Agree with you. I was raised in Italian household and this recipe is very hard to swallow. My recipe simple ingredients and delicious.
Sounds so good and it would go good with the peppers. Haha
Looks, mine is probably better
This has been on since Feb 25th. Is it ever going to disappear??????
Oops. Feb 15th.
Well this is AMERICA , NOT ITALY….. There’s Nothing Wrong with Traditional ” Sauces ” , but , there are a Lot of Other Countries Represented Here & All have Varied Tastes….. I for One PREFER a Good Meat ” Sauce ” ( not Gravy ). To the Traditional Sauces , Especially that Crazy Spaghetti w/ Crabs , yuck, whoever thought to put Crabs in with Spaghetti..???? Now that You see how it feels to have Your Perfect Idea of What Sauces should be talked Down to , Maybe , just Maybe You will be a little Kinder when Speaking about Someone Elses Recipes…….It’s all about personal Tastes , and Thankfully Everyone Doesn’t have the Exact Same Tastes… What a BORING instead of WONDERFUL WORLD It WOULD BE……
You’re telling me to be kinder? You’re the one yelling…
I agree with you I grew up with Italian family, and when I make a good fresh sauce or spaghetti sauce I never use onion or green peppers. Now if someone like to add onions and green peppers that’s fine to each their own, just not my thing…
My grandma and dad were born is Sicily.
I agree, I was raised Italian also…This is nothing like the sauce we make. Green peppers in spaghetti sauce..No way…Plus the longer you cook it, the better it is!!
its a freaking pizza hut ad. go away
Can we all agree?
There are as many spaghetti sauce recipes as ?
Make it your own people!
( adding a jar of the preferred sauce seems strange to me)
If you don’t like peppers don’t use them.
Not worth the trouble to try and find a printable recipe here.
When making sauce I often have a small bowl with Italian bread. I have to taste it to see if it’s almost done!
The only ingredients in my sauce are minced garlic, basil, parsley flakes and a small pinch of red pepper flakes also a little sugar, that’s it.
My first thought is why are you putting bottled marinara sauce in it. It’s not homemade it’s just doctored sauce from a jar.
We always put green peppers in our sauce.
That was my first thought.
