Who Wants Regular Traditional Soup When They Can Make This Rich Chocolate Version?

Here's everything for this decadent milk chocolate soup with cake croutons. This recipe requires 20 minutes of prep time and 2 hours of chilling, and makes eight servings.

Ingredients To Gather:

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups whole milk, divided
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips, divided
  • 4 slices (1/2-inch each) frozen pound cake, thawed
  • 3 teaspoons Crisco shortening

Directions To Follow:

Start by whisking together the sugar, cornstarch and salt in a large pot, and then slowly whisk in 3 cups of the milk. Cook the mixture over medium heat about 2 minutes or until it's thick and bubbly, stirring frequently. After this, remove the mixture from the heat and then add the vanilla and 2/3 cup of the chocolate chips. Stir the mixture until everything melts and the mixture is smooth. Next, pour the soup into a large bowl and cover with plastic wrap, and then chill in the refrigerator for between 2 hrs. and one day.

Next, make the cake croutons. To do this, place cake slices on a baking sheet and then bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for between 10 and 12 minutes or until browned, turning once. When the slices are cooked, let them cool and then cut them into cubes measuring 1/2-inch. Now, take the rest of the chocolate chips (1/3 cup) and place them and the shortening in a small bowl and then microwave on medium heat for about 1 minute or until melted, stirring once. Stir to combine well, and then when ready to serve, stir the rest of the milk (1 cup) into the soup and then ladle into bowls and top with the croutons and drizzle with melted chocolate.

This milk chocolate soup sounds incredibly tantalizing and decadent, and those cake croutons on top are the perfect complement. This is the perfect comfort to have as a quick pick-me-up or to cozy up with on a chilly day.
