Here's everything you need to make these incredible animal style fries just like the ones from In-N-Out Burger. These are only available in a few states, so if you can learn how to make them you'll be the envy of everyone you know.
Here Is What You Need…
Ingredients To Gather:
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoon butter
- Kosher salt
- 2 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons mayonaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 2 teaspoon sweet pickle relish
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
- 4 slices deli-cut American Cheese
- 2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/4 inch fries
Directions To Follow:
Slice the potatoes into pieces measuring 1/4-inch, and then place them in a bowl of cold water while you get the rest of the ingredients ready. Next, heat 1 tbsp. of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Heat just until the butter is shimmering, and then add the onions and 1/2 tsp. kosher salt. Turn the heat down to low, and then cook about 15 minutes or until the onions are well-browned. Toss and stir occasionally while cooking. Once the onions are sizzling and look dry, add 1 tbsp. of water and then stir. Cook until the water has evaporated and the onions are sizzling, repeating this process three times.
Next, make the animal fry spread by combining the mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, sugar, and vinegar in a small bowl. After this, dry the potatoes, heat the oil to 365 degrees Fahrenheit, and then fry for about 3 or 4 minutes or until the potatoes have started to turn white. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the skillet and then fry the next batch. Then, double fry the potatoes by letting them cool, and then placing them back into the hot oil and frying for another 2 or 3 minutes or until they're golden brown. When they're done, put the fries on a plate and cover them with American cheese slices, the melted onions and the animal style spread and then serve.
