You Be Thanking Us After You Learn How To Make Gold Frosting. This Stuff Is Super Difficult To Make!

This easy icing recipe has just a few steps, and is far less complicated than its appearance would suggest. You'll create the gold color by using what's called edible pearl dust. Just take a small container and add about 1/2 tsp. of pearl dust to it.

Here Is What You Need To Do…

Mix the pearl dust with a few drops of alcohol or flavored extract, such as vanilla, lemon or almond. Alcohol and flavored extracts are used for painting on royal icing because they evaporate very quickly, which means that the liquid won’t dissolve the icing as you are applying the gold. My favorite alcohol to use for this process is Bacardi 151because of its high alcohol content. I also use 160 proof vodka when I can’t find Bacardi 151 at the liquor store. If you are looking for alternatives to alcohol, read about my experiments with different liquids to use when painting with gold.

Add just enough alcohol, a few drops at a time, so that you achieve the consistency of paint.

And that's all it takes! We recommend using brown icing to pipe your designs first and then let this dry for between 30 minutes and 1 hour. This gives you a guide for when you apply the gold icing. See, just a couple of steps and you can create a masterpiece that looks like something straight out of a palace kitchen!
