They Say Necessity Is the Mother of Invention, But In This Case It's Also the Mother Of Something Incredibly Tasty!
Dulce de Leche is a sweet, heavenly substance that's a key ingredient in many popular desserts. It may sound exotic, but it has a surprisingly simple: It's actually made from ordinary sweetened condensed milk. That's right, the kind you use in baking and other recipes!
What makes it special is that the milk is heated a super-long time — several hours, in fact — until the milk becomes thick and carmelized. It's practically bursting with rich, intense flavor that enhances mouthwatering desserts such as Tres Leches cake.
You can buy canned Dulce de Leche, but you may have trouble locating at your corner supermarket. That's why it's good to have an easy method like this on hand so you can whip up a batch whenever you need it.

I read somewhere that you can do the same in a crock pot but don’t remember the instructions. Will look it up.
You just put sweetened condensed milk in a small canning jar screw lid on tightly and place in your slow cooker covering jars completely in water for many hrs. It’s so fabulous.
Thanks Kathryn.
