Make A Fresh Batch Of Homemade Beef Tamales- The Recipe Is A Lot Easier Than You Think!

Have you always wanted to learn how to make authentic tamales but didn't know where to start? Well this straight forward recipe will have you doing a tamale dance in no time!

Things You Will Need:

For The Filling
  • Cooking spray
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound beef stew meat
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground dried red New Mexico chile
For The Dough
  • 3 cups masa harina
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons canola oil
  • 1 cup fat-free, less-sodium beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 16 long thin strips dried cornhusk
  • 1 cup Red Chile Sauce (optional)
  • 16 large dried cornhusks
 How To Prepare:
  1. Start out by getting your beef mix ready to load the tamales with. You'll cook onion and garlic until onion is transparent. You can do this in a dutch oven or a pan, whatever you're preference is. Add your beef and continue cooking for about five minutes. Stir in water and salt and bring to a boil. Cover and cook for about 1 and 1/2 hours until the beef is super tender.
  2. Remove liquid from pan (set aside) and add flour to coat the beef. Then stir in ground chile and slowly add the liquid back into the pan. You're going to reduce the heat and let simmer for about seven minutes until the liquid has evaporated. Let your beef cool to room temperature before you start assembling your tamales.
  3. Place 2-3 tablespoons of tamale dough on corn husk. Spreadout a little and then put a tablespoon of your beef mixture on top. Fold over until you’ve formed a nice bundle of joy. Not sure how to do this part? YouTube it. (Repeat this process for each tamale assemblage)
  4. Cook tamales on steam rack over boiling water, covered, for one hour. Remove and let rest for about fifteen minutes before enjoying.

Finished!

Note: Serve with red chile sauce, sour cream, guacamole and of course a nice, tall and cold Tecate for the perfect tamale… or you can have a corona.

Happy Baking & Enjoy!
