The Secret To Finger Food

The Secret To Finger Food

I love to encourage others to use their creativity to create their own delicious recipes. Recently we did a piece on DIY salad dressings, which stemmed from my lack of interest in the dressings I encounter at the market. The same goes with dips! Call me picky if you like, but I enjoy crafting delicious blends of my own flavor combinations. When I invite guests over, I always make my own dips and chips and usually I can throw something together with ingredients I already have. I almost always keep yogurt on hand for this occasion, sometimes all you need is to throw in a chopped herb like cilantro, and you have a dip! I am going to share with you some of my favorite combinations and “formulas” so you can start making your own dips.

First let’s start with chips.

The easiest chip to make is a tortilla chip. Use a sharp knife or even scissors to cut triangles through stacks of corn tortillas, creating about four chips per tortilla. Lay them out on a baking sheet with salt and a drizzle of oil and bake until crisp.

Do the same with pita bread to make pita chips and season with garlic and parmesan, or just plain salt.

To make potato chips, cut potatoes into thin slices and lay them out on a baking sheet with salt and a drizzle of oil, baking until crisp. Try seasoning with cayenne, taco seasoning, or onion salt.

For a healthier option, try making zucchini and onion chips, using the same instructions above. I crispy red onion chips with a yogurt/dill dip.
